What some organisations do today in handing money over to the poor in advance and then collecting whatever donations they can before the ‘Eid prayer, is invalid. This is because Zakatu-l Fitr requires a valid intention. In this case there isn’t one, because the charity gives the money on behalf of people who have not yet given their Zakat nor have they requested the charity to pay on their behalf.
According to the madhhab it is also not valid to give Zakatu-l Fitr on behalf of a stranger without their permission. So it is important that every Muslim takes care in knowing where his Zakatu-l Fitr is going, to ensure that his act of worship is valid.
