What is the ruling for late comer who joins the imam? Which part of the prayer should he complete? The first part that was missed or the last part?

According to the madhhab, he completes the first part that he missed, so if he joins the imam in the third rak’ah, then he should stand up to make up the first and second rak’ah when the imam is finished.
